NPR's Fresh Air recently featured a lengthy interview with Wired.com writer Eliot Van Buskirk about the current trends in digital music.

My favorite was the business model that pays the artist $500 for a song, it's recorded performance, and it's publishing rights in perpetuity.

Adjusted for inflation, that's about on par with the fifty bucks a tune unscrupulous publishers used to pay Fats Waller back in the 1930s.
